Moulding more and better

At the Fakuma 2018 trade show, BMB (booth 4105, hall A4) is exhibiting the eKW18Pi/700 full electric injection moulding machine focusing on speed, precision and consistency, obtained through a combination of precision mechanics and sophisticated electronics.
The machine exhibited in Friedrichshafen stands out for its clamping force of 1,800 kN; mould opening stroke of 550 mm; distance between tie bars of 510 x 510 mm; screw diameter of 45 mm; injection volume of 355 cubic centimetres; injection capacity of 266 g (PP); injection rate of 350 mm/sec; injection pressure of 2,000 kg per square centimetre; plasticising capacity of 52 g/s. Equipped with a two-cavity mould, this machine moulds 1-litre PP food containers with thin walls (thicknesses of 0.5-0.6 mm), weighing 23 g each.
According to the Brescia-based manufacturer, the strengths of the eKW-Pi series of electric presses include: a clean workplace thanks to the absence of lubricating oil; lower production costs due to a 50-60% saving on electricity and 80-90% on water consumption; considerable reduction of sound emissions; repeatability and precision; reduced expense for lubricating oils due to the use of water-cooled oil-sealed roller screws; reliability and repeatability, resulting in high efficiency and zero rejects.
As regards the injection unit, these machines feature direct-drive torque motors, with the absence of transmission components to the benefit of performance levels and compact dimensions. The injection unit consists of a completely redesigned system. The motion transmission uses all the power generated by the electric motor, without any losses. The clamping unit features a direct drive, oil-sealed lubrication, closed loop cooling system and recirculating roller screws.
